I'm here and alive. Thanks for your best wishes, everyone, as this is been my first chance to get online since the storm.
Long story short: our beautiful 60ft. evergreen is no more, as it crashed down on our power/cable lines and landed right on our front step. Miraculously, we still have power even though the line was pinned to the ground, as the force bent the power line's pipe and ripped it away from the side of my house. We also never really got flooding where I live, only insane winds. But 1 town over, not to mention Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, are under water. My neighbor and I spent all day Thursday chainsawing and moving limbs to the curb, as it's impossible to get a tree company right now. So now power line's happily dangling 2 feet off the ground over my driveway. All utilities, however, are out: internet, cable, and landline, and even cell phone operation's been sporadic. Catch 22: Fios won't restore services until the power line dangling is repaired; PSE&G won't repair power line until piping that contains said power line is put back up or replaced by an electrician; try finding an electrician, landscaper, tree company, gas, open bank, etc. right now; you get the point.
If you told me we'd ever get a storm worse than Irene or the ice storm of last October, I never would have believed you. This is MUCH worse. IMO.
