This story is really about a personal triumph more than anything else.
When I was a kid, my mother had clipped out a copy of a poem written by John Lennon entitled, "The Toy Boy" from some (then unknown) magazine. I loved the poem, and for years it hung around the house for years until, in 6th grade, I took it to school and read it aloud for a poetry reading.
Fast forward 20 or so years later, the clipping's long lost, and I'm in search of it again. I ask around and nobody's heard of it. I attended a Beatles convention, asked a few Beatles "experts", and still nobody's heard of it. (One "expert" even accused me of making it up because, you know, he's the expert so if he hasn't heard of it then it couldn't possibly exist). I even asked Yoko about it at her art exhibition years ago and she'd never heard of it either! I searched for years in vain and finally just forgot about it. Now and again, I'd check online to see if it would show up, but it never did.
Fast forward to yesterday and THERE IT IS posted online! I'd searched previous years (like the poster in the link) online and it wasn't to be found. It looks like it's been posted for a few years now, but I'd pretty much forgotten and gave up about it until now. Apparently many people have been looking for it as well. Anyway, here it is in all it's glory and I'm glad to finally close the book on this lifelong search. I think it's still a charming, clever little poem and very indicative of Lennon's wit:
