Wow, great starting price and a nice Buy in Now price. I always wanted an Orange one of these, I had one in my hand at a GTR show 15+ years ago and regret not getting it. I resolved by getting my Mike Lull in this configuration (P/J) in Gold. Now my Lull has the Blend option, does anyone know if the Fender Hot Rod is VVT or is it blended? |

I used to own an orange one years ago, but sold it. Yes, VVT, with a hotter output J PUP to match the P. To be honest, I was never enamored with these basses. The P PUP sounded great on it's own, but the blend of both never did it for me and the J alone was lacking some of that classic "Jaco" warmth. I also never liked the modern neck profile Fender was offering at the time. Gorgeous looking bass though. |

I used to own one and loved the tone with both stock pickups full on. In gig recordings I could hear the high sparkle from the J pickup coming through. If you like turning knobs and flipping switches, there's some good suggestions on a bass-forum-of-a-lesser-god regarding swapping out the electronics and going with either a blend knob and/or 3-way selector switch. An active pre is also a good option. If I have time later I'll try to find a link. |

Excuse my ignorance here but what makes a Hot Rod different to any other fender precision PJ? |
