Is it just me, or does the Headstock look to be refinished?! I thought during this period that "Precision" was clearly under the Fender logo, including left handed models. Also, the script of the Fender logo does not match the period script. I could be wrong, however, that's a lot of money for an altered instrument! |

Looks like a refinish to me too. There are a few questionable things about this bass. For one, it looks to be an L series serial #. L series were discontinued by mid-65. The spaghetti logo was phased out by '64 and the transition logo began along with 5 patent numbers displayed underneath around '64 as well. Heres two lefty '66 P Basses/necks out there now, both displaying the transition logo: https://www.ebay.com/itm/original-1966- ... SwjIZZ0nE4 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-1966-left ... SwjqVZFPkG It's quite possible the bass is a pre-'66 original, but I'd have to see (correction: INSIST!) what's under the hood, heel stamping, pot dates, etc. before I'd go near it. |

Totally agree with Billw and PJ. If I was looking for a vintage Fender P (and had the dough) I'd consider this one. It's authenticity is well documented and almost 3 grand less. http://oliviasvintageguitars.com/bass/guitars/6037/ Or this one if you prefer a Jazz (love the cigarette burn on the headstock) http://guitars.com/inventory/bf3122-196 ... eft-handed |

Yep looks to be an older refinish on both the body and the neck. Not a very good job either. In the P.U. cavity you can see new white paint runs on top of the old yellowed original paint. Also look at the condition of the tuners. Not consistent with the finish on the headstock. Both the body and the headstock should show more wear, tear and checking. |
