I'm glad those are neck-through. The ~3 fret overlap with the body just looks... delicate. |

Cosmetics aside, assuming all else is well with it that's quite the deal at that price. I Iove those late 70's to mid 80's Washburns! Definitely one of those brands that requires an understanding of who was actually building guitars for them at what time. Washburn "classic" production years are generally acknowledged as 1978-1985, when what's known as the various Wing, Scavenger, Vulture and Force series were being built in Japan by Yamaki (alongside Yamaki's own Daion brand) from 77-84, and by Chushin Gakki (alongside Jackson, Fresher and others) from 84-87/88. Sadly by 1991, production of Washburn instruments had shifted almost entirely to Samick in Korea, to become just another rather generic Samick 'product" at that point. Here's my classic era Washburns, all neck thrus, build quality on these is excellent in keeping with that era of japanese builders- and kudos for the fact that they actually produced a few lefties: SB-40 1982 (the deeply scalloped neck pocket is a dead giveaway of the Daion relationship) B-40EQ 1985 (Amazing tone! Features the active rotary selector that works very much like an Aria Pro SB1000- it accentuates certain EQ frequencies across the spectrum from low to high. By selecting any of the preset positions you can add treble bite or growling mids or smooth lower-mid frequency warmth, then fine tune with the tone control. Also toggles from active to passive). Bantam Headless 1985 (full scale) |

Another vote for the SB40! Would be cool to include the electronics from the 40EQ into the 40... |

Agreed! Bakithi Kumalo played similar Washburns extensively with Paul Simon. Here he is sporting a cool, very similar but not identical fretless (an earlier model B-40, the predecessor of the SB-40). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk7MCvCHNQA I never knew these were made by Daion! Production of Washburn instruments from this era is usually credited to Matsumoku. |

Awesome! I dig the super long upper horns on these. Must be really comfy to play. The only Washburn I own from that era is an '83 Stage B20 (I also own a headless Washburn Status S1000, but that's from 1990). I can concur the build quality was excellent during that time period. It's passive, but the P PUP sounds better than about 90% of the P basses I've played.
