I'm no expert, but that seems like a totally reasonable price. I recall SHDM grabbing one last year:

Yes, a very reasonable price. The serial # places the instrument somewhere between October - November, 1982

Yeah, I paid more than that, and this one looks to be in better shape, although mine is white and black hides marks better.

Buy two of these and you've got your paddles. ;) (Or is kayaking the one that uses the single double paddle?).

That serial number is actually a 1987-88 range bass.http://www.steinbergerworld.com/serial-L.html I sold my 84 last October for $2200 and it needed a refret. I owned it since 1986 (30 years) It was a 1984 model (s/n 1964) Great basses and a really good price at $1500.

I'm in Seattle and would be happy to help in any way I can. Fremont (where this bass is) is about 6-8 minutes from my house.

My bad. That's the same site I used and I must have looked in the 500 range instead of the 5000s.

Look at serial # 541-A on that database. I wonder if he ever paid for it?

I read somewhere that he ordered one after playing Sting's backstage at a Police gig in Florida.
He later returned it after demands he pay for it, haha
