FYI, the different pickup configuration is based on the number of strings. All Thumb 5 basses have the double-slanted pickups, while all Thumb 4 basses have the neck pickup straight. Also, for those who might be interested, there is a Thumb NT 4 in France on Arni's site that, judging by the year, should have the beloved Wenge neck. I'd love to get my hands on one. |

I wonder if its for that low B so its a bit tighter sounding with the pup being a tad closer to the bridge? |

Thumb basses have their own thing going and it is a very unique tone. They are absolutely fantastic ESPECIALLY the NT's. The only gripe is the neck dives but the tone is so great and they cut thru a mix better than a lot of basses. Thee are a few board members here that would back up this comment. I love the NT Thumbs...!! |

Absolutely agree 100% with all grave's Thumb comments- except that having owned both I'm in the camp that prefers the BO to the NT. I know there's folks on both sides of that fence, but either way you can't go wrong! Conley, you mentioned "judging by the year should have the beloved Wenge neck"- what year did they stop doing Wenge? |

I had a thumb bolt on years ago and loved it (except for the neck dive). I'm an experienced player but I've never been able to hear the difference between that and a neck through bass. |

There's an NT in France for $1,800 courtesy of Arni's:

I am hoping they will start trickling through the used market, soon. I could jump on the one listed on Arni's site, but I am skeptical that there will be enough difference to justify the cost. Some people even like Ovangkol better. I sure love mine. There is definitely part of me that is dying to find out what the Wenge neck is like, though! I have also heard the newer Thumbs aren't as good, which means this '92 would be a good one to get... Here I go, convincing myself to buy another bass again... Hey, maybe since Ovangkol was only used for a limited time, in time they will be more sought-after than the Wenge necks! |

I used to own both a Thumb BO and NT. I preferred the NT (ever so slightly slimmer neck that was more comfortable) ad a bit more "organic" to my ears, but truthfully I never bonded with either. |
