Lovely grain on that body

Geez, look at how misaligned that neck is. E string's clinging on to the edge of the fretboard for dear life.

Pass

Grain is supa-fly, but it has to be played. So that neck-alignment (although treatable) is not what I'd consider "Brilliant condition".

Could it be the angle of the photo?

What's the deal, there? It is just a poorly-cut nut?

That would be an easy fix, but I suspect the problem is more serious than that and consistent with many crappy QC issues I've seen with late 70's Fenders. I own a '77 Tele bass with this exact same problem, and it's due to the bridge being misaligned with the neck. Since the Tele bass is a strung through design, I'd basically have to fill the holes and re-drill or try a different bridge with adjustable (left/right) saddles for adjusting string spacing, and hope I can move the saddles far enough over. On a Jazz, however, even though the bridge might be misaligned, it might be an easier fix by finding one of these aftermarket bridges, since this is a top mount design. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are a Schaller with adjustable rollers or Hipshot's KickAss:

The nut slots look like the were all cut a bit too much to the bass side, but I think it's more the bridge wasn't installed correctly. Never knew about the Kickass bridge... nice!

Gosh, what a mess.

Might be a neck pocket problem. Can't see if it's a tight neck to body fit from the pictures. If not the bridge mounting holes could be filled with dowels and then remount the bridge in the correct position. Wouldn't need to move much. There could possibly be an impression or paint issue left where the bridge was, but there's a good chance there wouldn't be an issue. Once the bridge was removed that could be determined before hand. Could be an easy fix. A good picture of the bridge removed would be needed and an adjustment in price. It does look like the nut could be adjusted or a new on cut that would help a bit from that end as well.

Is it me again or it looks like the strings line up perfectly with the poles? If so, could the bridge still be not lined up?
