It is strange that a guy in a local store told me he can get a brand new Rick for $1600. Of course i have to wait about 9 months but sounds like a sweet deal.
$400 down and the rest at the pick up day. Not bad at all.
I only sold mine because i was thinking about ordering one some time.
Next time i stop by i will ask him to double check the price and see what happens, maybe after 9 months a new FireGlo will be born! :)

I wonder if you could get a 4003S even cheaper.

I prefer the S, assuming a stereo jack has been put in it.

Oh, no. It will be some time before they do. I forgot about that.

Ok, for a moment i thought they started to resume the 4003S ... sob.

To stay in topic, i never had the chance to own a recent production (2013/14/15/16) 4003. From the clips i've heard on the web they seem to sound rather consistently.

Unfortunately the euro/$ conv rate is at its worst ever, otherwise i would seriously think about it.

I bought one new from the UK when the Pound to Euro ratio was really good (for me), I think in January 2009. I loved the tone, but the neck was a huge square lump. I sold it to help fund my new car when the previous one died in a crash. I would love to own one again at some point, but I would really want a more comfortable neck. Hated playing a full gig with it!

Keep an eye out for a mid/late 80s. The necks on those can hang with any jazz.

I have a 2015 4003 and I really like the neck but . . . I like big necks and I cannot lie :)

As someone who is poor, and could probably never afford to buy a Ric bass... I keep trying to convince myself I'll never need one, or that if it was handed to me, I'd hate it, and go back to my low-cost arsenal.

But I would be lying.

GAS pangs... they hurt so bad...

I have a '78 4001 and the neck is also very thin for a Ric. I love it compared to other Ric basses I've had. I found it locally though. Because of the vast differences in neck dimensions over the years - and it seems day of the week - with Rics, I don't think I'd ever take a chance on an internet purchase on one of these again.
