Ahhhh, you beat me to it....

I only suspect 1 thing. Look closely at the serial number font. Suspicious. Also is the Jazz Bass correct? I thought the font was straight line. I could be wrong but the serial still looks strange to the eye.

Not sure about the serial (pretty sure it's fine though), but the Jazz Bass script is correct.

I wouldn't let that serial number freak anyone out... there were a few different looking versions from the 70's and the weird spacing between the first letter/number and the number sequence is normal.

A Google image search will verify that.

Here's another jazz with a similar serial number...

It's not a fake decal. I've owned several late 70's Precision and Jazz basses that had the same decal layout. Fender did that on a few to separate the serial number from the year abbreviation. Ex. S7 12345 or S8 12345 etc)
The "S" stands for 70 and the following number is the year 7 being a 1977 and 8 being a 1978.
Fender did some different things in the 70's. Don't freak out over it.

And if you notice, on the headstock of paulos 77 Jazz neck, it doesn't read "made in USA"
Is it a real 1977 Jazz neck? You bet it is. I used to own it and believe me, it's real.

I never said it was not real, I said it was suspect fake. I have never seen a bold serial number Fender decal before from the 70's. the S7 were bold but the following numbers were not (sharp). Addison's link shows the gap before serial. thats not what I meant.

Maybe its just the shitty listed photo making the font incorrect.

If this is real, cool.. and I know all about the decals missing parts from the early days. I have a 73 Fender P logo with no patent pending number below the Fender decal. Strange but this a real neck unmodified. They did strange things back then. It was just cut off.

That's interesting.
As long as they are real it's all good! :)
