Looks like someone bought a chinese copy bass from alibaba or aliexprex Comments of the seller: "This bass is very rare, I can't find any info on the company anywhere online. There just doesn't seem that there are any other Wizard Basses or guitars." http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wizard-USA-5-St ... 2518.l4276 |

No, Wizard is a real thing. Handmade in USA (by a luthier in NY City, IIRC. My memory is vague, But there was a pro/semi-pro[ lefty metal bassist who had 3 of them made for him, the 5 in the pic, a blue 4 string, and a white (with black stripes?) one shaped like a Thunderbird. I met him at the Tampa Mars Music store; he was not gigging at the time and had the basses on consignment. I liked the T-Bird ( think it had EMJ P+J pickups), but didn't want to pay he $1250 he was asking for it. He also offered me a straight up trade for my '80 Stingray, but that wasn't going to happen. Anyway, all this was 20 years ago, so even if some details are off, I'm sure it's not Chinese. I just read the listing; Great White was the band the guy said he was in; I believe the seller is telling the truth. Also, Teddy Cook was the bassist for Great White in the early '90's, so that part checks out, too. |

Wow thanks for the info! I also looked up and found nothing so it's good to know these are made here and not as a copy. |

I think I actually played this instrument. If this is Teddy Cook's bass I met him at a Dio gig locally. We got to talking backstage and he had his guitar tech let me play his instruments (how often do you get to play a selection of left handed basses). I remember the Tbird shaped one and a really nice Pbass. I do remember talking to him at a Great White gig in Tucson a few years later. Lefty bass players are the nicest people. |
