......to just being a really overpriced piece of wood and metal?

Seriously. I know I ain't the vintage Fender aficionado here. (Ha, I ain't even one of the top 100 here.) But doesn't this seem to be outrageous? For gods sake, look at the frets! Maybe if it had the rest of the bass attached to it we could talk reasonably about that price......

Not sure what that neck should go for, but that's fucking ridiculous.

This belonged to that body reshaped like a pizza slice, IIRC.

That's an awesome Pre-CBS neck that can be restored easily (frets dressed). But @ 5k...? Uhhhh, good luck with that.

*Could* have deeper issues like warped fingerboard or maxed truss rod. Trust me, you don't wanna be surprised with those issues after receiving it. Ouch.

I don't think that price is correct. I showed my wife a new Ibanez left from Reverb just last night at the ripe old price of $17k. I also found a G&L for $14k. Honestly, I thought it was my computer. I carry this one to Thailand from time to time, and often ebay (and other sites) will show the prices in Thai bahts rather than US dollars. Seeing this post just tells me that Reverb's website has gone wacky. That is not the real price.

Would be nice if this is the case... But, some people just want to "milk" the Fender name, and vintage market any way they can. Still, it's all about what the market will bear.... so we'll see if this eventually moves on.. or not!

If he's offering the rest of the bass for $1, I'll take it.

No, but here's the '65 loaded control plate for a mere 499 usd. Same seller, maybe from the same bass.
