First off, its not a real Fender Logo. The bridge is not real. It's a possible knockoff. Just warning some who might do a quick transaction here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Left-Handed-197 ... 2325500695 |

1. The logo and decal are indeed genuine Fender. 2. The bridge is also indeed a real Fender, period correct - BUT, for some strange reason, the 'G' string side has been cut, or filed down, it just looks weird. 3. What is true, is that the seller is dubious, because the bass is clearly not from 1975. How do I know this stuff? I'm a luthier and bass repairman, since 1969. I'm very familiar with these basses, having owned a '73. I still repair, modify and build basses from scratch. It's too bad that there isn't a whole lot we can do to stop unscrupulous sellers.. this person might just be ignorant of what this bass actually is, I don't know. |

??? I don't meant to question your years of being a luthier but that logo is "not" correct and the bridge saddle screws are too short. The base doesn't look correct to me but more importantly the logo is not factory. Look at the attachments for comparison. I have owned/own a 73 P and a many 78/79 P basses and my current 78 is different. -The lower tail of the F logo is wrong. -The Serial number is stretched -Precision Bass it too far up and stretched Just a few to note.

I agree. Also the decals don't appear to be under the finish as they should be. There seems to be some kind of scam going on with this seller. It may be a legitimate page that's been hacked. It's been reported to Ebay but no result. This is the third lefty that he has listed since it was reported. At lease one was listed as sold. Hopefully no one has lost any money and or Ebay stands behind the buyer in any case. I've bought a number of basses off Ebay, but this will makes me stop, think and scrutinize a good bit more going forward. Members of this site are very helpful bringing that type of info to the site. Keep up the good work everyone! For the full thread on this seller/ issue see the link that Tim listed a couple of posts above. |

Definitely not right. In addition: 1. Fender did not start putting serial numbers on their headstocks under the logo until 1976. "S8" would imply a 1978. 2. Logo should be applied under the finish (only vintage basses prior to around 1968-69 had logos on top of finish). Wrong logo for a '75 too. Outer edge gold was never that pronounced. And everything about the logos/types just looks too big to me. 3. Fender did not offer a pick guard cutaway for accessing the truss rod as big as this one has, so at the very least that's been modified. It might fun to ask the seller for pix of the neck heel, back of bass, etc., but I'd say stay away. |

The words "Precision Bass" are in the wrong font. Look at the "S" I do that for a living. pete |

I'm no Fender expert but I have never ever seen a legit Fender where the logo went under the tuner ferrule ever. It looks wack to me the whole waterslide. |

I stand corrected.. The decal and logo are Fender, but upon a review, I see that indeed this is not a genuine period correct factory installation. I really should have looked at it closer. I've worked on so many of these, I really should know. Spent three years as a tech for a major Fender dealer, from 1979-1982. Hmmm. I must've had too much brandy lol! |
