The eBay seller is in GB but the description says the item is in Dayton, OH. So I'm guessing the real seller hacked an eBay account with 100% feedback to post the listing, but then put instructions in the description to contact him using the gmail address. That would explain why the starting bid is nil and there's no buy-it-now price despite the BIN price listed in the description.

I sent a message to the eBay seller.

Just to memorialize this before it gets taken down, here is the item in question and a screen grab of the listing. The description was as follows:

Quote:
This is a original sunburst 1964 Fender Left handed Jazz Bass with the original hs case It has the original Finish and all the original hardware it has a nice neck it is not bowed or warped. The bass plays and sounds great no static. The bass has a few wear spots on the finish and some scratches on the top horn on the front over top of the natural checkering,The bass has natural checking top and bottom what you would expect to see for a almost 50 year old bass.It has clay dot markers. The hard shell case is ok the one top end is broken on the top of the lid but the lid still holds good when it is closed and opened.the bridge cover is original as well are the tuners and the electronics, this is a great old original jazz bass and as you know there are not a lot of 64 left handed bass guitars out there. If you live in the Dayton Ohio area you are welcome to stop in and play it I will not ship it over seas the reason I cant insure it for what it will sell for so if it were to be damaged I would lose the money so local pick up only or ups ground in the continential united stated only. This is a great bass but it has some minor flaws as you can see in the pictures it has some wear marks and a lot of the corners of the pick guard have cracks and chips.and it has some scratches on the top front of the horn but I think it could be polished out I dont want to mess with it I want to sell it as we bought it the new owner can do with it as they see fit.

Reads like one of those Nigerian emails... a comma now-and-then would be nice.

Someone should email him saying that wants to pay the asking price for it just to see what instructions are given

Scammers do that on purpose. Only the least observant and most gullible need apply. Poor grammar/syntax weeds out any potential mark with a bit of sense before the scammer exposes him/herself too much.

The listing is already pulled. This same listing (same bass pic, bogus directions) pops up a few times a year.

Be careful with your accounts on eBay and passwords. :geek:

Last year there were tons of such ads on eBay. Looks as if they are coming back.

It is always the same scenario: they hack an account with great feedback and post an ad that always require you contact them through a gmail or yahoo address. The ad is always a picture and the format is always the same. They are pretty easy to spot and of course to avoid at all costs...

Best is, if you are a good Samaritan, is to contact the legitimate owner of the account and let him/her know (s)he has been hacked...
