485 currently. 2 left. Will probably go up after next one purchased, but I could be wrong. If I still played bass more than 1 hour a week I would be all over it.... |

I don't know much a Prime membership is, but it would probably pay for itself with just that purchase. |

I am not a massive Amazon user - maybe buy 3-4 products/year - but indeed between the access to some Prime videos, the discount and free shipping, it is worth it for me... |

That string arrangement seems more conducive to using a pick. For that bass, I would much prefer the 'octave' strings to be underneath the 'regular' strings for fingerstyle. But, I have never played an 8. What say you? |

Well done, can't beat that! That's the thing with Amazon and their special offers: as soon as one is sold the price shoots up again. It might be weeks or months before the last one available goes back to $300.00, if at all... |

I had this bass (in the video below) built for me in the late 90s... 8-string/4-string - octave strings are like you say. I'll see what I can do with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1kBk-tD9BU Also, off topic, this is my most favorite bass ever. Alas, I sold it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrbueCilOGQ pete |

Like guitar, typical 8-string setup has the fatter string on the bottom. For me, I'd keep it that way, even playing fingerstyle... I'd rather have my picking fingers touch the fat string first, so it feels more natural. But, to each their own, I guess. |

Def worked best with my picking technique to have the octave strings on top. Made it easier to mute the octave strings. IIRC, the typical selling price of these basses is $849 or $899. And no doubt I'm preaching to the choir here, but be real carefully with that neck, obviously a ton of tension with all those strings pulling on it. |

The octave string above also works better during fingering of the notes. From experience, you need finger muscles of a god to fret the notes with it below the primary string. Because of the shape of the finger tip, how your hand comes from under the neck, your finger naturally rolls onto the smaller octave string. I worked with an Artist who had a bass built with the octave string on the bottom. They had problems for this reason and this guy is built like a brick shithouse!! I worked with him to reverse the strings. |

That sounds so cool. And I have this bad habit of breaking into guitar melodies (or even female vocal melodies) on my bass, and one of these things would really make it sing. I. Must. Have. One. (but after the holidays) |
