Well, some listings and people can give you a trustworthy vibe. But the writing in that listing combined with the knowledge that the guy who wrote it was inside the instrument tinkering with the electronics are enough to take a pass. Add in the Chris Ballew string setup and it's enough red flags to end a soccer match.

It's too bad. I remember Carmine's post and got excited when I saw the listing.

Maybe he's in a Morphine cover band.

I own three of them, one being my daily player, bought from Lefty007, with a righty 2+2 neck. Love 'em.

Anyway, based on his recommendation, I was after one for a while, but as I got a deal on a Schecter Sixx, I have filled my quota.

Hey Paulo,

Yours (maple neck) is a flat top, 'uncontoured' body and slightly wider - and heavier - than the all-black rosewood board.

You also got open tuners and a vintage-style bridge while the other has a heavier bridge and sealed Tacoma-like tuners

pups are pretty similar - if not the same; they also share a v-b-t setup.

First and most importantly, congrats! You got yourself an awesome - and quite underrated - bass

Now a few notes on it...

- Let me know if you want to hear some horror stories about rescued basses... I have a few, including my '86 roadstar, rescued from a pretty shady place... :lol:

- Yours neck and tuners are good so you are almost set for life!

- I have the same pickups problem with another Ibby (a '92 CT), where the J is stock and the P is a incredibly hot older Seymour Duncan - but not with the stock Roadstars.
Your P pup it's not stock - it's supposed to be DiMarzio-like, with Allen screws - so they might be messing with each other. You may want to revisit this after you fall in love with it

- I think you are right about the controls... My '85 is V/V/T too - for some reason I thought it should be M/V/T like the '86

- You got the original plastic knobs, do let me know if you want to get rid of them!

- Did it also come with the original 'fly' strap holders?

I love most of the '80's Ibanez basses, but haven't liked the'85-86 650's I've owned . $600 is way high, and because of my past issues with a bad neck, I wouldn't trust a neck that has had only 2 strings on it for who knows how long. If the neck is good, I'd pay $350 because it has a case.

They are indeed great. Bassist in one of my cover bands plays his regularly. As for price, I'd say the starting price of $450 is right around where they're at. Any higher, and you're paying a bit more than you need to IMO, though they're certainly not getting any easier to find.

Couldn't resist. Heard too many good things about it, the price was not bad and i couldn't find the same anywhere else so i decided to give it a shot! But it took about 5 days for the seller to ship it so i may have it by this tuesday. Got a fresh set of strings waiting for it!

Bass arrived yesterday. It came in it's original case... At first i was freaked out about how dirty it was, i could write on it with my finger. The seller just throed it into the case and shipped with some pieces of newspaper around but mostly in the bottom of the box and the bass was moving inside the box big time. I was scared about how long those 2 strings where on the bass for and i did a quick clean up all around and even the grease off from the tuning pegs. Put a new set of strings on it and luckily the action is just perfect and the tuners work smoothly. Very nice bass! I would assume the knobs would be as the Jazz Bass? VOL/VOL/Tone? Both "VOL" works as in the JB but when i have the 2 of them on it sounds weaker, i'll have to take a look at it. But when used one at the time they sound fine. Could be something that i am not familiar with or some wiring issue since the prevoius owner switched the bridge pickup. I'll post a clean pic later!

I'm sure it will clean up just fine... reminds me of the first ATK I bought. It was a right-hander, and hadn't been maintained for years. The chrome cleaned up real nice with #0000 steel wool, and a bit of toothpaste as I recall... old thread and pictures here - viewtopic.php?f=12&t=723&hilit=Ibanez+atk300

Once again congrats on your great new bass! Thanks! I have the original PU, i will put it back on and use the Fender on a Squier Pbass... Worked out good! It's all there, the V shape strap holders, never seen them before! And the original Ibanez orange case! I didn't even had to do any setup to it, it's just perfect (to me)! Plastic knobs are there too! Gonna take some pics once it's all cleaned up and with the original electronics in!
