I might be interested because it's nice to have a bass I can throw in an overhead compartment on a plane, but it is pretty expensive and my Hohner B2A does the job quite well. The Stein is cooler, though, and looks to have some more typical string spacing. The spacing on the Hohner is really narrow, which I actually like, but it does take an adjustment when switching between basses. |

Heh, I just posted this one a few minutes ago, but with a less helpful subject line. I've actually got my eye on a Hohner B2 for the next time I still have a few extra bucks at the end of the month. How do you like yours? The other advantage I see with one of these minimalist axes is being able to bring it to and from the office without drawing attention to myself. I'd like to start taking lessons again eventually, but it would have to be during the workweek and I don't want to get dirty looks for coming back from a long lunch with a gig bag over my shoulder. |

I love my Hohner B2A. I had a B2AV (5-string with jazz pickups - the B2A has humbuckers) which I loved as well. It has a nicer walnut satin finish instead of the plain black gloss, and I prefer jazz pickups. But, I am a 4-string guy, so I sold it and got a great deal on the B2A. The Hohner B2 series instruments are built rock-solid, very light and convenient to travel with, and they play SO well. They are absolutely worth every penny. Again, one thing to note is the string spacing: 9mm at the nut, and 16 at the bridge. It is pretty narrow. I actually like this spacing because for me, it's super fast. But, it may be crowded for people with larger hands. |

Nice, thank you. What style do you play mostly? Fingers/pick/slap? I'm actually looking at a B2B (I have a thing for P/Js). I hadn't noticed the string spacing in the pictures, but I'll keep that in mind. |

I would rather have had a B2B as well as I prefer single-coil pickups, but I got a good deal on mine and I didn't want to mess with having to convert a righty as the B2B is not available in lefty. I play fingerstyle on that bass. I don't really have much problem getting between the strings for some slap and pop. Bought this B2A a couple years back off eBay for a good price because the knee rest was broken. Was able to find one, and the case at Headless.com. Total investment I think is about $350... Used to have a black one years back, but it was stolen. Bought this one because of the color...

Been such a long time since I've played it, I had to pull it out and give it a try! Plugged into my little Roland Micro Cube to try it out on, which to me is a decent test of a bass's overall tonal balance. The B2A sounds quite good, and the B-string comes through just fine ( I do need to put on some new strings though - any suggestions?). |

There is an actual lefty B2B out there, though. Although the red is tempting... And fiver, love that quilted maple (or whatever it is). There was one like that at Adirondack last year, but I passed on it as four strings seems to be too much for my lobster claws. |

I guess I just assumed the B2B was never made lefty because I hadn't seen one. Oh, well. I don't want to mess with selling my B2A and buying the B2B. I like mine well enough and it is in great shape. That store also has a lefty Peavey Fury II, which is my first bass. |

I don't think that's true or even entirely possible, as you have a top face plate screwed in for access to the innards. My XL2 ('88) has that. Unless they imply that the top face is also from the same composite piece and then separated? At any rate, this one is definitely an oldie and quite possibly the first lefty ever made. Note the Steinberger sticker logo (instead of later etching). The plug in leg rest is also missing. Not sure if that was included with original instruments or if they had to be purchased separately back then. However, this is the [url]oldest lefty[/url] Steiny on record! Here's the serial # database, which is updated by customers. (Note serial # 541-A. Apparently HE ordered one after seeing Sting with one never paid for it after it delivered.
