This one has also been around for a while, but with no pic. Now we have a pic and its Purdy: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/GL/L25 ... -Guitar.gc price may be a bit steep, but I don't think they ever made a Tribute 5 string in lefty, so this maybe another U.S. Version... |

I don't think they ever made a lefty Tribute 5 string, so that should be USA. It is a little pricy but looks very nice. |

G&L are great basses, it looks as if this is a USA version, if so then the price is a little high but you will end up with a great bass. I have approx 30 basses, and if the flood waters were rising fast my 64P, 80 Ric, Mike Lull P and G&L would be the first ones to go to higher ground as I tend to always grab the G&L for gigs. |

Much better than buying a tribute with no color finish (4strings) for 700. |

I bought it. It's shipping out today, so I imagine I'll have it some time next week. I have never seen any left-handed L2500 Tributes either, so I'm also thinking this is a USA model. Even if it is a Tribute, I'm OK with that. I have wanted an L2500 for a long time, and this came along at the right time. I'll update this thread with details when it arrives. Thanks for posting this, NoXX! |

The bass arrived today, and I couldn't be happier! As we all suspected, it is a made-in-USA L2500. The body and neck both date from April, 1997. This bass is in unbelievably good condition for its age. There are no dings on the headstock and very few on the body. It has a small spot on the back of the headstock that has been filled with darker wood, and the finish is almost worn to a satin consistency just below the neck pickup, right where a traditional thumb rest would be. I'm guessing there used to be a strap pin on the headstock, and a former owner was an "old school" player who plucked with his/her thumb. Whoever they are, they sure know how to take care of their gear. I'm really blown away by how good this bass is. I kinda felt like an idiot making a purchase based on that one fuzzy picture, but I really got lucky. |

The small mark on the back of the headstock is known as the birthmark; it was a spot that was used to anchor a router jig but I think now is just part of the G&L tradition. Can you post some pics when you get a chance? |

Can you post some pics when you get a chance? Interesting, I didn't know about that. The bass does need some cleaning. There is a lot of tarnish and gunk on some of the chrome parts, especially the tuning keys, but the chrome underneath seems fine. I'll be sure to post some pictures once she's all cleaned up. |

Congrats! G&L are great basses! Part of me thinks shame they do not hold value but part of me says you can get a great playing bass made in US for under 1000 and in most cases in $500-800 range. |

Coming from Guitar Center, you are very fortunate. Great news. I purchased a Spector EURO6 string bass a few years back from GC for cheap ($620) and couldn't believe they sold me it that cheap. It needed some work but just goes to show, sometimes you "CAN" get a god deal from the GC used market. Enjoy!!!! |

I finished cleaning and setting up the L-2500 today. Here are a few pictures. It took a *lot* more work to clean up the chrome than I expected, but it turned out nice after a few hours of polishing with fine-grit polishing compound and a toothbrush. It was worth the effort, the chrome almost looks like new now. It's hard to believe this bass was made in 1997. Check out the headstock, not a scratch or ding in sight! http://s12.photobucket.com/user/l0rider/library/G-L%20L-2500 |
