Be still my heart If things weren't so tight right now I'd be all over this. This is EXACTLY the same bass as the first bass I ever owned. I've always wanted to own one again. Guh..... |

I owned this one - my first bass ever - which my grandfather bought for me brand new. I don't think I really appreciated how amazing it was at the time. It was no more than $300 CAD new and played better than anything under $500 I've played since. My second bass ever was a used Vantage in the exact same body style as this but neck thru and with two sets of P pickups and lots of knobs and switches that I never really figured out at the time. It was amazing as well, and surely a higher end bass. But, it never really lived up to the mojo I had with that simple bolt on version. The neck was really comfortable and fast. The string spacing was just slightly tighter at the bridge than a Fender. Can't remember if the stock p/u was any good based on the fact I was just learning at the time. I can tell you, it wasn't the best bass for anyone who has an intense need for "perfect balance" or "lightweight". The SG shape, 34" scale, and larger headstock caused a bit of neck dive if I recall. The maple and mahogany construction made it at least 9lbs and maybe closer to 10lbs. This wouldn't stop me from buying it. (I've toured extensively with a Thunderbird and a Kramer DMZ4000 at many times. So.... neck dive and heavier weight don't bug me that much. Ha.) I'm gonna consult with my wife and see if I can swing it - unless any of you guys get it first, and I wouldn't blame you...... |
