Mike's collecting pledges for an upcoming La Baye bass. Its already met the quota, so it would appear to be full steam ahead. Though no one in Devo technically played a La Baye bass, Bob 1 played a La Baye guitar so this will be the bass version. La Baye did produce a handful of basses back in the day, so they're super rare. Though the bass is not a lefty, in this instance flipping a righty over would be one of the more easier bass designs to do it with, as it's virtually symmetrical and the knobs are on the side of the bass. I think I'll be ordering one. https://eastwoodcustoms.com/projects/la-baye-2x4-bass/ |

Bob nearly decapitated me with that guitar. It was 1980(?), at Armadillo World Headquarters. I was right up front, elbows on the edge of the stage. The signal from the 2X4 started to short out, pissing him off to the point where he pulled it off mid-song and started slinging it around by the strap, in wide circles. More than once I got an up close look at that guitar as it swung past my face. |

No plans for a lefty, though ironically, Devo's bassist is a lefty. |

Just out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you would prefer that bass over a Steinberger Spirit or Hohner B2/A/B? I absolutely love my Hohner B2A. It plays like a bass with twice price tag, it's already lefty, and it has a smaller footprint, having no body past the bridge and no headstock. The 2x4 does have a little more character, though. |
