No, that's Montezuma Brown. I didn't know that was ever made in lefty.

I almost bought a new matte Montezuma brown 4003 in '87; unfortunately someone stole the battery out of my car, so I had to wait a week to lay it away, and it was gone.

I like the extra bridge screws on it; it was a good idea that apparently outraged Rick purists.....

This is rather interesting for a few reasons:

1) A battery is a strange thing to steal.

2) You should have bought the Rick anyway  Things would have worked out!

3) The purists are outraged by an improved design? So what do they do with their flawed "pure" bridges when they start to lift? Replace them? That's not pure. My '86 has the extra screws as well, and I am glad for it. Oh well, I'll probably be the same way when I start to grey.

I've seen later (early 2000) lefty Montezumas, but not as far back as '87. I question the accuracy of the description, since I don't believe Montezuma was ever an offered color until the 2000s. (If you look at the original listing, the only reason it's indicated as Montezuma Brown is because someone suggested it to the seller). The Music Connection knows their stuff. Scroll down to see the color timeline:

I think it's a Fireglo. Look at the back of the headstock photos.

EDIT: Hey, you know what? This might actually be FireGlo. The pictures might just be poorly white-balanced. Look at the picture of the pickup cover. The pickup cover looks yellow, and the paper next to it looks blue.

A guy at RickResource said there were definitely no Montazumas made in 87.

The seller may also have the year wrong.

Pete's right, there was no Montezuma Brown in 1987.

Sellers are very nice and the bass is great! It's FireGlo (as confirmed above), perhaps a bit on the darker side of the spectrum. I played it through a GK 2x10 combo for about 45 minutes. What fun to have one close by that I can actually check out in person... super fun!

I don't know. They said someone contacted them about the color and pointed them to some online resources to confirm.

I couldn't resist and bought this. Holding it in my hands was too much. I'm mostly a P bass guy, but so far I'm blown away by the feel and sounds of the Rick. It's my first one! Happy!

Hopefully there will be at least one more soon, with Matt trying to sell his beautiful Ruby.

Ditto to that. I thank you, and so does my wounded paw! ;)

I know... sorry Matt. I actually thought of you as I purchased the bass. I wasn't in the market, but having one so close to my home was just too tempting... I had to go check it out. And then to finally play one... well, the rest is history. GLWTS, fingers crossed for you...
