If you are not aware of Fender Japan they make some very good basses, this one is at a very good price. Also remember for guitar center in most cases they will trans ship to a store in your area if you purchase on line.

Right! I just traded one in on a wholesale deal in that range. It was mint, but this seems to be a very good retail price.

As a followup...that bass is a real dog, maxed out truss rod, bad front PU, scratched and scuffed all over, even smells funny! Aw well...going back.

Wow! Explains the price I guess. Not a very good disclosure however.

Yeah, push to get your shipping costs refunded since they didn't list all those issues in the description! GC is usually pretty good about refunding under those circumstances.

Thanks guys, I was surprised just how bad it was! This poor thing needs Dr. Kevorkian. My friend, who buys through GC Used quite often, said their policy is full refund if there are problems that aren't disclosed....should be a shoo-in!

You could also drop it off at your local GC rather than ship it to the store you purchased from. I did that with an amp and they credited me for the tax and shipping as well .

One of the only lemon guitar I bought during the past 15 yrs was from GC. It was an electric acoustic guitar on which the piezo did not work under the high strings. Unfortunately I played the guitar without plugging it for a month and it was too late to return it when I realized the problem. Now having the option to return the item to a local store is really great.

Dodgy bass location update.... it's now in Oregon at GC :D I ordered it when it popped up again, forgetting about this thread until after I'd placed the order. I do buy/sell a lot of stuff via the GC site/store, and I agree that this bass is an unusual horror-show. The local GC guys could not believe someone had bought this in to the GC stock (And tagged it as "good")- they would have rejected it.

The only good thing is that it seems to have lost whatever bad smell it had earlier. I agree with everything tallboybass said earlier, and then some. When it got to me, the PU's were both functional, but the tone pot seemed to do very little, oddly (maybe a very wacky cap choice?). The truss rod is still in need of dire medical attention as it's maxed out and looks like it was attacked by a maniac with a screwdriver, the d string was dead somehow, and as much as I love mojo, someone had clearly used this bass in a bar-fight, or else tried to smash it on the stage a-la the clash, as it had a massive stress-induced crack in the finish, and bits of wood and finish were actually falling off the bass as we unwrapped it in the store.

I owned it for a full 45 minutes before I gave it back and walked off into the sunset.....

:D it's like a game of pass the parcel (as we'd call it back in the uk). I too was surprised that both PU's were working. Sadly the local GC folks took the easy option and relisted it with the old description, so some other poor soul will end up with it like we did..
