That seller certainly has an (apparent) affinity for classic lefty basses. Sweet collection indeed! |

That '71 P is as close to the Holy Grail as I've seen in the last couple of years, and the price is not outrageous. (A lot cheaper than $4K, Sly. . . ). If I didn't already have my Holy Grail P-Bass, I would have bought this already (and if I had money...). The Jazz is nice, too. The Tele, although rare, it's a shame they did such a hack job on it. BUY, BUY, BUY, BUY! |

tomdbass wrote: Wonder if he does trades?...... His store website says"BUY,SELL,TRADE" http://www.billsmusic.com/about-bills-music-2/ Unless he's selling these on consignment, it would be worth contacting them to see if they'll take trades. I like the 71 P(only 8.7 lbs = NICE) I used to own a mint 71. Now have a mint 75 P so I'm good. Go for it! |

They won't do trades online. Only in person. |

2 red flags here for me on these basses: P bass appears to have an aftermarket decal. There is no patent codes below the logo. the other 72' P for near 5k has it as a few others I have seen. J bass Fender decal positioning seems pretty far back. I have seen a few that had bad placement but who knows, just appears to be in the wrong location.

Also the beauty mark on the back of the head is missing or wrong. The decal is definitely not original and wrongly placed compared to my 3 vintages P. May be a refinish also. And it is a bit underpriced for a lefty all-original 71 IMHO. Disclaimer: I am not trying to sell my 69 because it is a keeper since I have put the original p-u in |

The Jazz logo looks legit to me. It's a bit closer to the edge than normal, but still looks within parameters. The P bass not having the PAT numbers is less common, but remember than in those days, lefty decals were very inconsistent. Here's the decal of my '73 P: |

Here's the decal of a '68 Tele. See that the Fender word doesn't have a PAT numbers below it. It wouldn't surprise me if they used cut off decals of other models for lefty models, since the production numbers were so low. Also, I have some books about Fender history and there are a number of different models with a similar logo without the PAT numbers, although followed by the model number. But of coursem this is all speculation. . . there are counterfeits out there. Also, check out this page: http://www.marksguitars.com/TeleNecks.htm |

Here's the decal of my '73 P: Same here: The decal on my 70 is exactly the same and placed like that too. My 75 decal is the same but further up by 1/4". My 67 Tele has the gold logo Fender without PAT My 69 has the gold spaghetti logo from the 50's after a refin.. |
