somethings strange though...my old 78 was a 3 bolt with the thumb rest on the top.....
did fender do both versions in 78?...a transition year perhaps?

I thought the moving of the "thumbrest" from below to above happened in '72.

The thumbrest is not era correct placement. I'm guessing an aftermarket pickguard, or someone put an even older guard on the bass. If anyone can get pics of the bass with the pg removed there should be another set of thumbrest holes on the E side of the strings, otherwise I'd guess it's a parts bass.

Unless you have to have a sunburst/maple board bass I'd look at PJ's 77 jazz in the FS section first. Better price from a well known seller. Plus there's definitely a question mark around the thumb rest placement on that bass on CL.
