Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time spending over $1500 for a Korean made instrument. (Likewise when I see Chinese made Eastman instruments going for almost that much too). |

PJ, Eastman instruments are incredible value for what you get. Despite their Chinese origins Eastman has been in business for decades (IIRC). They are a family run business and know what they are doing. I picked up an A style mandolin a few years back and was astounded that the finish on it was hand rubbed varnish. Today that same instrument would retail for about $950. It compares favorably with a similar Collings model - it's damn close tonally. Try getting anything varnished from Collings at that price point. Sorry for the derail! |

My post wasn't meant to be a knock on Eastman. I know they make great instruments. (I tried a couple at NAMM in 2013). Still, If I've got, say $1200 to spend on an instrument, I'm going to Larrivee or Godin first. Call me old fashioned, but once prices start creeping up on an MIC instrument past a grand I lose interest. There's also the resale value issue too. |
