This one keeps popping up, and there was a discussion here a while back. I believe someone here bought it and then returned it due to a sloppy neck pocket or something. If you look at the photos, you can see the where the heel and the body meet the body's sticking way out beyond the heel of the neck.

I think that bass is fantastically overpriced. :x

Did Fender exclude "Precision Bass" from the headstock back then?

I think I may have played this bass before. I remember it being a '73, and the neck had been reset.

Lefty Fenders with only "Fender" on the headstock were quite common (or as common as a lefty can be) during that era. Fender was using the TV logo typeface to denote their models at this time, and the lefty headstock didn't really lend itself well to a proper layout of those types.

My 76 P has that same look with the body sticking out past the neck. I've heard that it was because of the increased production #'s in the mid seventies...craftsmanship got a bit sloppy. I wouldn't ask a fraction of that price for mine! Poorlefty

That '73 Jazz that Matt used to own had that some look when I checked it out. But it didn't look like sloppy neck alignment to me. It simply looked like the neck pocket (on the G-string side) wasn't cut straight, providing a little extra body wood at the pocket.

Yeah it had the typical 70s pocket, just like my 74 does all the way around. Strangely, my 74 never shifts at all. No shims or anything. It's a magical bass I tell you.
