I have a question. How do you confirm the identity that these are true 60's, 70's ashtrays? To my belief, the 60's, 70's "bridge" ashtray had the mute strip, and the mute strip was positioned with the thinner side on the treble side. At least thats how mine is for my 78 P. I did receive another 70's P bass that had the mute strip positioned righty (bass side on the treble side), but that could have been a factory mistake or bought elsewhere. I emailed the seller and they never responded. I know some Fender guru people here would know the answer. Thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/60s-70s-Fender- ... 3a7ce64c8d |

I previously spent a lot of time reading threads on mute and I remember reading that the foam is supposed to mute the E-string more than the G string hence the foam must be thicker on the E. I makes sense when you play. |
