I saw a comment and picture of Addison about a Zon Sonus Standard 5-string (Korean) that Zon brought to Winter NAMM 2013. Curious about the availability of these, I e-mailed Zon directly and they tell me that that show piece is in stock at their shop, and the only one available right now. And they said they picked that one because it had a specially nice top.

Anyhow, it's heavier than what I want (9.5 lb) but it's available. Price it's around $1400. . . I'm guessing these have US electronics and get a full fret dressing at the US shop? These look strikingly similar to those Korean MTD Z series - wonder if they are made in the same factory.

FYI.

Here's the bass, if anyone is interested...

Image

It's a burl top with some cool flame and spalting in there as well... looks killer in person.

I was pretty surprised by this bass... it sounds absolutely killer. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm a 19mm guy on 5-strings, I would have certainly buttered up Joe for a sweet deal.

Anyway, all Standards are PLEK'd and get a full factory setup at the shop by the same couple of guys who build the USA stuff. The electronics are Seymour Duncan Basslines.

Also... someone else at the show had the same question about these being built by the same factory as the MTD stuff, and Joe's answer was no. I don't know where they're made.

Sweet bass... I think it's the only one that wasn't sold at the show.

Here's more detailed info, although I just noticed that the string spacing information is incorrect on this page. I'm 95% sure it should be 17mm and not 19mm.

I need to fix that.

If you want to see more pictures, Bass Central has some righty pics on their site... or, if you want more detailed pics of that bass, let me know and I'll see if I can get you some.
