I know this guy, I wouldn't buy a Coke from him. But that's just me, others may have a different view. At best his stuff is folk art. |

Are you referring to the seller, or the builder? From what I've read of these over the years, they will generally need a few tweeks, to all-out shaving, straightening etc. This one has a bit of Parker Fly goin' on.... |

The builder. I once had the displeasure to play with him at a blues jam. He came in with a couple of his friends, all playing his " instruments" and I have never heard such an out of tune, crappy sound in my life. He thinks he's Keith Roscoe, trust me he is not. |

There are some horrendous clips of the guy on YouTube. I had one of his basses. Very rough, but the tone was amazing. |

I've played a couple of his basses, a guy here in the Netherlands has a couple of them. He had a Peanut 5, and two massive 6-strings very similar to his Hipper-model. The owner absolutely loved them, but I couldn't get along very well with them... Especially the 6-strings! Referring to these necks as 'baseball bats' would be a huge understatement. They're substantial, to say the least. Steve Wishnevsky refuses to use truss rods in his necks, so to compensate for the tension he just makes them really, really thick. The finish is indeed very rough. The guy over here where I played those 3 Wishbasses had the two 6-strings built without having Steve finishing them, so he could do a final bit of sanding, and apply the finish himself... But I have to admit: they sounded great! |
