Friends, I just got the 64P Bass that was posted here about a month ago, I have 28 basses, several Fenders, early G&L's and Mike P basses ect and nothing even comes close to the early Fenders. The Pre-CBS stuff is just as amazing as everything folks say. To me the price is worth every penny (as long as the Mrs does not find out:) |

Yves Carbonne wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9krKWV7eX8 Great sounding piece Yves. I saw that you took the pickguard off the bass. Jaco look. But are you aware that those old Fender pickguards tend to twist easily when they are not put on the bass? Just to let you know what I learned from my luthier recently |

A lefty '64 Jazz, my dream bass (I was born in '64 ) I could never afford such an instrument so I will live vicariously through you. It sure sounds wonderful! I have admired your ERB playing for a long time and I must say that it is quite a trip to see you playing a 4 stringer. Cheers! B |

Thanks! I have removed the pickguard precisely because with the years it has shrunk... This is why it was broken on few points. Your luthier is right. So for me it has nothing to do with Jaco, and also the pickguard brings absolutely nothing regarding the sound. Well, it's a cool look on the bass when it doesn't shrunk or/and break. |

Hey Yves, The Jaco thing was a compliment not a bad comment I actually love an old Fender without the pickguard too. I did it for a long time with my natural JB 76 just like Jaco's bass on the picture of the Invitation album I'm just afraid to do it on the 62 because it doesn't warp yet after all these years. Keep groovin' Yves, I'll go get your music Cheers, Sylvain |

Hey Sylvain, Thanks for the compliment and for getting my music I suggest that you don't remove the pickguard on your '62, because it's very possible that it could be hard to put it back on the bass. The holes on the pickguard would probably not match anymore with the holes on the bass! Congratulations again for your bass and I hope we'll meet, my friend. Cheers, Yves |

Yves, your videos bring to mind that old saying, "It's the indian, not the arrow." Whether you play one of your multi-string fretless or a 4-string Fender (even without pickguard ) you still sound like you, and don't we all? I've probably said this a few times, but I agree that many pre-CBS Fender have an incredible magic to them. Only had the chance to play a '65 P-Bass once (practically, still a pre-CBS) and it was pure magic. Congratulations to all of you who have and have had a pre-CBS Fender. We truly hate you, a little bit. |

It's comforting to think this rare gem did not end up in the hands of a collector, or a mediocre yet wealthy bassist playing in a garage band, but in the hands of such an amazing player! |

Thanks for the kind words! I agree that those pre-CBS Fender Basses are generally great instruments. This particular '64 Jazz belongs to a friend of mine who is a collector and a bass player. I have it for now and that's great because for me studying old instruments is a part of the process for conceiving new instruments. |
