Gibson does little to support their bass products, lefty or righty, but I've got to say in their defense (I can't believe I'm defending Gibson) that they're doing an exceptional job right now supplying lefties with at least various guitar options. There's a whole new line of Les Pauls, SGs, and Firebirds out right now for lefties in many color options/configurations, and they've stepped up their QC, IMO:

I think the approach they're taking is they're putting out lefties in a limited run and retiring previous models every year. That way, nobody's getting struck with inventory and they're not producing more than they need to.

And that's precisely what Fender needs to do instead of offering the boring black and sunburst finish that nobody wants anymore and claiming at the same time - "well nobody is buying those already so why would we offer other lefty options!"

Fender Lefty special runs is what we want!!!

When did you get an SG, Marc? Or did you always own one?

I love the one I picked up a few months ago from Hello. Really lively rockin' guitar with some nice chimey cleans too. The Angus tones are built in, but I haven't found those Derek Trucks tones yet. ;) Everything about an SG defies logic in my mind, yet they play/sound great: thin body/no mass, etc.

SG showed up about 6(?) weeks ago. I have been so slammed at work I've totally lost track of time.

It's not my 1st SG. I have it's older dual HB brother that's been with me for many years.

The reason I got this one tho is to help round out my Townshend collection. All I need is a Gretch 6120-57RI and I'll be pretty much done unless I stumble across a genuine 1952 lefty Tele (HA! wish me luck here!!).

This SG sounds fine, but for me the Gibby pups are much more polite - read less aggressive - than the Lollar P90's I have in my Collings 290.

To sound like Derek, u pretty much gotta BE Derek :-) I know of no boutique gear out there that'll get you there. No Derek-in-a-box so to speak.
Tho I have a set of WCR pups in my HB SG that gets kinda close when played through a clean Bassman type amp.
