i have 2 of Keith's basses and for the smaller stature player, these are perfectly balanced, killer feel basses...
somebody is going to get a great bass! (cheaper than the T-Bird too!)

I saw this bass a few years back on bunnybass.com. The store has closed down since then. I think its a 2005/2006 unless there are 2 exact identical Zebrawood Roscoe's in left handed floating around. I remember the top pattern... I think this is it. Nice bass. Roscoe's sound very good for the bartolini basses. She will close for much more then $1,200.00.

I have every intention of getting a Roscoe but haven’t figured out what I want. I DO know I want their Black/Gold finish on some really pretty figured wood. I live in Greensboro and know Keith and Gard well. I was over at their shop a while back and Keith showed a body with the black gold finish and it was gorgeous! I just can’t decide on a 4 or 5 string and what pre amp to go with. The neck inlay will be done by Wayne C. Henderson, we’ve already discussed that.

I actually called Jimmy at bunnybass (also close to my house) to buy that zebra wood Roscoe, but he had sold it that very morning.

Roscoe basses are unique. they either are good ones or decent ones. I fortunately had a good one and let it go. I just found another one in a 6 string model brand new. It's the LG3006 model. It's a smaller body but very well balanced. Luckily for me, we were able to do a trade plus cash deal. I could not afford the entire $$. Here is a shot of the bass. I just received it from FedEX yesterday. This bass plays like butter. Very well made instrument. Keith and Gard are well respected people and customer support can't be beat.

Thanks pjmuch... It's an Antique Yellow quilted top on a mahogany body. The mahogany made the top look a little more on teh amber side but I really actually like it. It is to the exact specs as Jimmy Haslip's. It is the "Haslip" Model strung up lefty. Jimmy plays righty strung. The Pau Ferro fingerboard is beautiful and the bass sings for days. the neck is taking a bit to get used to but I am generally a 5 string player and the 18.3mm string spacing rules!

Carlos would hate this bass. It weighs in at about 12-13LBs. :o

It closed at $1675.00? Come on... that's a steal for this bass. Well, rule of thumb... Always place a high reserve. :?

Oh, man, you bet. The LG3005 was very tempting. . . But I'm not sure I would dig the sound because the pickup location - I gave up my Sadowky 5.-24 and Smith BSR because I didn't like the pickup locations. And I wonder how the reach to the 1st position is with such a small body/horn and 35" scale.

But Roscoes are in the Top 2 of my GAS list. I would love to order a Century (longer horn) with Jazz Bass pickup location. One day. . .

I find the bass very comfortable with the smaller LG body style and like the angled pups actually better then my older SKB3005 straight line. The bass has plenty of growl when needed with the Bart Mid kit cranked and bridge pup used. I could only imagine the tone if it were a fretless with this Pau Ferro fingerboard.

OT, but am I the only one who thinks "Roscoe" has a very "budget" kind of sound to it. No matter how much I tell myself these are nice bases, my imediate reaction is always that they simply "must" be cheapy korean factory guitars. Is that weird? I wonder if I'm making some wierd connection with some other brand or something in my mind, or if it's simply that it's a crappy/unfitting name for a nice piece of gear.

I believe your thinking of the Fender made Roscoe Beck Signature Model. Sub $1,000 bass. The Roscoe Guitars are very fine instruments and have a wide tonal range with the Bartolini pups and Bart NTMB or Aguilar OBP3 Preamp Installed. the reviews are out of this world and here is a link to view. Sure, there is always a better bass but I rarely make a purchase for the name on the headstock. It is actually Keith's last name if I am correct. After you get comfortable with the wider neck, it's very comfortable.

Hey now, don't get me wrong... I'm fully aware that Roscoes are quite nice and not trying to insinuate anything, just a random observation. Just saying the name sounds low-grade to me, like First Act, Rogue, SX type stuff. I don't know why exactly, just phonetically chintzy to my ear I guess.

EDIT: Maybe it's because Roscoe is sort of a "working class bruiser" kinda name. it doesn't sound even vaguely exotic... in fact quite the opposite.

apparently I'm just strange. :D

Ha.. no worries baalroo. The name could be better on a high end instrument but in all honesty.. there are far too many builders out there and I am unsure how the guys can really make money doing it. I believe it is more like an art to see what you can create. The best of the best (Like George Furlanetto/F-Bass) and others have been building forever and know all the tonal possibilities and what to do with woods.
