Wonder how long this one will last before it gets pulled. http://cgi.ebay.com/GRECO-PMB-100-Lefty ... 7083wt_856 Isn't the purpose of Rickenbacker clones is that they are cheaper than the originals? $1900 for a fake? |

Well, I'm no expert on the subject, but if that's a 70's Greco then there would be some collectible value attached to that price for a bass in such good shape. And then there's the value of the Yen vs the USD affection the price. Regardless, $1900 does seem a tad high. |

Just thought I'd mention that I do happen to have one of these Greco Paul McCartney Ricks that I brought over here to the states several years back. I have no need or specific plan to sell it-- but (in my ongoing quest to have less than a couple hundred basses to maintain ) if someone out there really wanted it badly-- and is interested in making me an offer I can't refuse-- I'd at least be willing to listen.

But i do remember noting that the pots were crap, basically on/off switches. Who knows, maybe they were wired incorrectly? I do remember liking the wood, the feel and balance of the bass and the sound of the pickups. Can't remeber what I thought of the tuners. |

I really like mine, and I'd say it compares very favorably to my actual Ricks. But in all honesty, the two "much beloved" bass models that I've never gotten entirely warmed up to for completely different reasons (although I own them both) are post EB MusicMan Stingrays (because I always seem to struggle to find "my" sound on them), and Rickenbackers (I Love the Rick tone, so I use them in studio but I have always found them a little awkward for me to play standing up, so I tend to go in a different direction for "live" performance). Again, the basses themselves are great--these are just my own personal quirks. |

Carmine, i'd like to hear how far (soundwise) is your greco copy is from the equivalent rick (say the V63 or C64 model) ... have you some recordings of any kind (video or audio) of the bass ? |

Sorry cangaroo-- no, don't have any recordings (too many basses/not enough time = never gotten around to devoting that much attention to it). The only quick comparison I can make is to my two 4001 basses, and when I say it compares favorably, I concur with AzWhoFan's comments-- I really like the wood, the feel and balance of the bass and the sound of the pickups -- similar, but not a clone (these are Greco electronics, not Rick)...

I sometimes feel that Rickenbacker (the company) has turned into the senile, angry old man screaming at "you darn kids" from his porch. |

I couldn't care less what RIC does, I've got all the Rics I'll ever need and don't plan on ever buying more, but it seems that they're just protecting their patented designs. Am I wrong? Please explain. |

Austin LeftyBassist is right. I don't know John Hall personally, however, even if he was the nicest gentleman on Earth if he did not aggressively protect the company's copyright and trademarks every time the company became aware of a case of infringment then it would be in danger of waiving its copyright, patent, and trademark protections. If you don't act quickly when you become aware of such things there can be some pretty rough consequences from a legal point of view. |
