Really? I don't recall seeing it on ebay, though there were other Modulus basses on the bay recently. What was the ebay price?

Me likey. :D I may just take up 5 string after all.

I think it was $699. It was up twice, which is why the pics I took off the auctions have different carpets in them.

Yep, I say that bass on eBay too a few times. I remember one time it was $1000, if I'm not mistaking.

The balance must be awful.

I'm sure. Also, there's no evidence that Modulus even made that body. I've never seen that style on any other Modulus. My understanding is that Modulus didn't make lefties at all before the mid-late '90's, too. My thinking is as it was the first time I saw it; somebody bought a Modulus neck and built a bass around it.

$699 and nobody bid on it???

Unless it is a bogus bass, as mentioned.

BTW, I rarely see 4 string Modulus basses (as well as Lakelands) and when I do they're much more expensive than the 5 stringers. Why? :?:

aren't you sort of answering your own question here?

I had a four string Modulus. It was made in '94, and was cusom ordered. Modulus got a Jazz body from some company that made them (not Warmoth) put their standard neck on it. I loved the tone of that bass, but the headstock looked so hideous on that body I wouldn't even take a pic of the whole bass.

A five string one came up on ebay once (I seem to have lost some of the pics I had of it):

Here's another early lefty Modulus, this time with one of their bodies:

So, I'm still thinking the other one was a guy ordering a neck and having a body built for it. Not much different than Modulus ordering a Jazz body to put their neck on, but still, from a collectability standpoint, enough to make it worth a lot less than $3k.

Well I guess my main question is why aren't they making 4 stringers? Obviously the rarity issue is compounded by the fact that they don't seem to have any desire to make them (even though the majority of bassists play 4 strings), but technically it cost less to tool a 4 string, less in materials, etc. I find it rather odd and downright ridiculous that neither company offers only lefties in 5 strings.

Maybe they think 4 string players tend to be more traditional in their tastes, and will likely buy a Fender bass.
