These look good in person. I saw Darryl Williams playing one with Euge Groove and later at a jazz/funk jam that evening. It sounded great. He had double jazz pickups though, not a MM style bridge pickup |

I agree with Danomite, I do not like the looks of the SB basses even though what I have heard sounds great and I'm sure they are very well made. >>Mini-rant<< The SB and B40/50 basses are IN MY OPINION a "jump-the-shark" move by Carvin, albeit a very profitable one. They have given in and issued their own Jazz and Precision models and while I am glad that they are getting the attention and great sales, it really bugs me that they felt they had to do it in the first place. Carvin has always made outstanding instruments but have never gotten the respect they deserved. {full disclosure}I have never owned one (a fact that really bothers me actually and I fully intend to reconcile that.) But, I was a student of Ed Friedland who, as most know, was a Carvin endorsee for years and I have handled almost all of his Carvins as well as a few others in shops over the years and have always been impressed by them. Furthermore, all of Ed's basses were completely stock and I never found the pups or pre to be lacking in any way despite that being the most commomn complaint of Carvin instruments. Carvins are well built and sound great. The fact that they had to issue what are essentially Fender clones before they achieved the acceptance and praise they deserved all along is IMO a pathetic testament to brand snobbery amoungst the bassplaying community, but unfortunately that's nothing new. <<end rant>> Well, I apologize for derailing this thread. Looks aside, that is very likely a great bass (love the color!) and I bet someone will end up getting a good deal! Cheers! |

I've owned 2 Carvin guitars and an LB-75. I almost bought an older LB 4 string, but the neck had too many chips in it for the price. Anyway, I don't think they've jumped the shark at all; I just didn't like the look of the SB series until I saw this one. |
