Looks nice. Reminiscent of a Sadowsky.

Carlos (aka 007), wasn't this the bass you purchased last year? We were both talking about it? I think it is......

Yes, indeed, I tried that bass last year. Top-notch materials and assembly. The bass is very light, and I really dug the EMG electronics. It sure has a Sadowsky flavor to it. Very modern and punchy. I would've loved to keep it but the neck profile was a bit thicker than what I like. It was $2000 when I tried it. $1800 is a fair price - you get a lot of bass. Not sure why they are trying to get $2500 with the But It Now - unless Nino raised his prices recently.

Nino used to work for Sadowsky, thus the similarities.

Carlos - do you remember if this bass had the USACG, Warmoth, or ??? neck? IIRC rumor was that Nino made a couple basses with necks from an undisclosed supplier

The USACG necks will have carbon stiffening bars ... the Warmoth necks will have steel stiffening bars

all the best,

R

I'm pretty sure the parts were from USACG. Not sure if I asked him, or I just assumed it. The neck was as nice as it gets: excellent wood, and the fretwork was top notch - nice rounded edges, too. Just the shape was not for me, it had a bit too much meat, unlike Sadowsky or Laklands, for example, which are very thin necks. I've never tried either USACG or Warmoth 5-string necks before, so I have no reference. . .

Yes - USA Custom Guitars of Puyallup, WA (not too far away from Warmoth)

I'm going to guess that bass has a Warmoth neck if you're calling it chunky. I happen to have a Warmoth 5-string neck on my workbench (it belongs to a friend and is here for a repair), and it measures 0.90" thick at the first fret. That's quite a bit thicker than a USACG 5-string neck which has a standard thickness of around 0.83"

All of the USACG necks I've hand my hands on were as thin or thinner than a Lull or Sadowsky

Of course this is only a guess, and Nino would know exactly what the specs are for that neck (including its manufacturing source)

All the best,

R

Thanks Guys - at least I knew it didn't stand for Coast Guard!
