http://cgi.ebay.com/1987-Modulus-Custom-5-String-Lefty-Bass-/180611102344?pt=Guitar&hash=item2a0d42b688 I've seen this bass on eBay at least three times in the last 5 years. Modulus should buy it for their collection and hang it on a wall. It scares me. |

Not that I'm interested, but have no clue on the value for a "Built in 1987!!!!!!! This is total quality!!!" Modulus. Anyone have an idea? |

Well it's whatever the market will bring...Value is only a perception of the buyer as he compares it to the market at that moment. Freaking Tool album comes out Wal basses come out of the woodwork and shoot up another thousand bucks. I would imagine around 2K would seem reasonable. But does it have a truss rod?? I don’t care what anyone says about graphite or carbon fiber shmiber some guys like some relief some don’t. No truss rod I would even want it. Electronics look really interesting I have wanted a bass with three pups for a long time but I would buy a new bass from Joe Zon before throwing the dice on that bad boy. If I couldn’t play it first I would stay away. They have pretty tight string spacing from what I remember about Modulus as well. I am a Warwick nut so that’s cool as a fan to me but to a Fender guy he would be like bleck!! It's crap shoot however you look at it. Then if you don't dig on it good luck reselling it again. That thing has been up on eBay many times and every time the price goes up but nobody buys it. It looks like for it's age it's in killer condition though. |

You're right about perceived market value. Obviously this seller's perceived market value is out of line with Real market value, otherwise he would have sold it long ago. And like you say, with all of the "custom" features on this bass, it would be good to see it and play it in person. |

Wow, I remember that bass being on ebay 10 years ago. The seller back then was asking either $699 or $999, IIRC. |

I would pay $1000 for that bass if I were a big Modulus fan and wanted something different and with historic value. As mentioned before, the string spacing is super tight, and with such small body and short horns, it must be so uncomfortable to play. I recall seeing that bass listed at one time for $1200. . . it would make for a great piece at the Graphite-Neck Bass Museum that's for sure. |
