As we said before - Those are great basses - Do you agree Jeroen?

Nobody else is allowed to weigh in? Geez, why don't you guys get a room. ;)

GREAT basses. Yes, a Stingray knockoff, but they have their own thing going on too, IMO. I actually prefer them over standard EB 'Rays, as they're a bit more versatile tonally to my ears. Amazing slappers.

I most definitely agree!

Great basses, and indeed more versatile than a Stingray. A real Stingray has a bit more bite, and sounds slightly more 'scooped'. The ATK is somewhat warmer and bolder, and suits more music styles in my opinion. And they offer incredible value for money :)

What would be the market price on that? Brand new they used to go for what... $350? It would be painful to shell out more than the new price but then again they don't sell lefties anymore (besides the expensive Paul Gray model) so it is difficult to get an idea. What would you guys say?

$350 sounds fair to me. Over here they usually sell for €300-350, no matter if they're Japanese, Korean or Indonesian. Lefties sometimes go for slightly more.

I personally own an ATK300L and I love it! I also own two MTD's (American), a Roscoe SKB5; a Pentabuzz, a Bebensee, among many others--13 in all. I must say that I consider this one of my favorite basses to play during a gig--a real working man's bass. It's solid as a rock, it cuts like hell--killer slap tone! and I don't have to worry about her getting banged around--she's a tough cookie ;), although I'm pretty anal about bass 'bang-up'. I've always preferred the feel and tone over an MM--just a personal thing after having owned one in the past.
I think 300-350 is a little undervalued, but looking at the economy, probably not. I've seen most go for around 400, and some in great condition, slightly higher. It ain't boutique, but damn, fun as HELL to play :D

The only negative thing I can say about them is they weigh a ton. Mine's very heavy (11lbs). I'm not sure if this is true across the board, but every other one I've encountered was heavy as well.

I hear nothing but positive things about the quality and tone of these basses. They are best bang for the buck. Hopefully someone on the board gets it for a good price. I would love to try the 5 string version of them.

I was thinking of bidding but I'd rather not engage in a bidding war with anybody on the board. I would only buy it for the going market price. When you add the shipping it has to be worse it. Anyone else interested here?

Ya know, this one thing I really like about this board. We seem to do a great job of not stabbing anyone in the back. Really, I mean, has anyone heard of a bad transaction with another member??

Maybe it's due to our selfish self-interest, who knows, but I'll take it.

Frenchy, your intent is admirable, but I wouldn't think that board members here competing for the same item would be inappropriate or unfair. I'm not interested in this bass myself, I'm just offering my completely unsolicited opinion.

I don't really HAVE to buy it so if anyone wants it they can let me know - I'll get it only if I get a decent deal - It's really no big deal

My very first lefty bass was identical to this one.

I almost thought it was the same one, but I never had a Gretsch gig bag. It seems some my old basses are popping up these days. 8-)

Great player.

P.S. I recall I paid $505 new, out the door, at Guitar Center Bakersfield in 1995 or '96. I also remember GC having many lefty MIA jazzes in stock. :D

Saw this the other night, and am really on the fence. I already have one, in the same color, but the lure of owning two rare ATK-L's is strong! This one looks to be in great shape, a bit better than mine, and I had thought that if I were to buy it, and it checked out as better than mine I would keep it and sell mine. But mine has the history of being on the White Zombies tour bus in the 80's, so that's reason enough to keep mine no matter what!

I won mine with a bid of $361.00, and the shipping was $40, so total was $410. Came with the original case as well. Just because they're so rare, I want it! But, I won't be selfish, and am now reasonably content to watch the bidding and see what happens..... :( ;)

As Gravesbass said, and as some of you know, I would love to get my hands on a 5-string, and have been scouring the internet for the past year or better for one, with no luck. Some of you may remember I bought a righthand 5-string awhile back, with the idea of eventually making a lefthand body for it and swapping over the neck and hardware, in case I never find one. So the search continues....

I hope the person who buys this bass has as much enthusiasm after getting it that I had, and still have for mine! I get great comments whenever I play mine out. Except for two friends that I convinced to buy the righthand model when they came up on eBay, no-one here in Hawaii has really ever seen this model, so it's like pulling up to an old drive-in in a rare car that draws a crowd.

So, to the soon-to-be new owner - enjoy!

I had one too.
one of the best necks i have played.
smooth and fast.

couldnt fault it as a bass but we never really connected
it just didnt have that "vibe" with me and i always felt i was playing someone else's bass.
sterile , sort of.

Sold it and have never missed it

They didn't make ATK's in the '80's........but, on a semi-related note, was the WZ bassist a lefty? There was a lefty salesman at Mars in the late 90's and I think he talked about being in that band (it was some 'White" metal band). Nevermind, he definitely wasn't Sean Yseult, and I'm pretty sure she's a rightie anyway.

As for that fine bass on ebay; I already have one, so I won't be bidding on it.

Dano, thanks for pointing out the typo.... I did mean the 90's! Although my bass was on the bus during the Zombies tour, it was a gift from Rob Zombie to his massage therapist, who had told Rob he played bass in high school. I'm assuming Rob and Sean probably played it at times....

You are right, Sean is right handed.

I had one... and it served me well while I had it. I recorded an album with it, and did some session work with it as well.

Here's a pic of me playing it in the studio as a hired gun... I think this was '95...
Image

And here's a couple of sound clips from one of my bands, Fatty Lovebuckle...

Fatty Lovebuckle - Crutch
Fatty Lovebuckle - Ode

Yes... the band name was Fatty Lovebuckle.

Anyway, when I walked into the studio, the chief engineer gave me a funny look when I pulled it out of my gig bag... but, he changed his mind when he heard it. He kept saying over and over, "Man... are you sure that thing is an Ibanez?" They are definitely great sounding basses.

I originally bought it because it was the closest thing to a Stingray I could get at the time... but, the moment i heard that Stingrays were going to be available as lefties, I ordered one, sold the ATK, and never looked back. I think I sold it for $400 or something.

Well, I have both an MM Stingray 5 and an ATK305 and ATK300, and in my case I think the ATK's are the more reliable workhorses. The neck on my Ray tends to be fairly sensitive to temperature changes and will detune under stagelights so it takes some time to acclimatize before a gig. My ATK's are in tune when I take them out of their gigbag, and stay in tune no matter what. I've just had to replace a battery clip in the 305 after 3 years of heavy use (and 8 years of use in the hands of the guy who owned it before me), that's all.
