I for one am P-bassed out at the moment, but if I'd needed one this would have made my A list- looked like a good deal on a very nice one. Did anybody here pick it up?

Not a bad price. Wood grain looks alder to me, however, and it's my understanding Fender only produced/produces natural finish basses in ash, so I have to wonder if the finish has been stripped. (Or maybe picture isn't showing wood grain well enough). Compare wood grain:

Good point...if we are to believe the seller it's original, but the picture is so crappy you can't really tell. Still amazes me that someone would sell a $1500 instrument and only offer up one bad pic to impress potential buyers.

Something about them 78 P Basses. They have this thing.... and it sounds great!! I sold mine to a guy in Belgium (sold a few to him actually) and it was a great sounding P bass. The pickups are really hi-output for a passive bass. 1500 is a steal if its all original. To my knowledge, Fender only produced ash bodies in 70's natural finishes. I am not 100% but what I heard and seen thru the years.

Here's another one in a very rare color, which was listed on ebay a few months ago and is back up now:

I'm tempted to contact the seller and see if I can check it out in person, as they're located 10 minutes from me.

No one bought it - I wonder why? (sarcasm)

To my ears, Fender's late 70s basses sounded best. But they also weighed a ton, have the most construction problems, and $2,250.00 is a nutso price. My guess is the owner doesn't really want to sell it ;)
