I'm sorry but I just don't get it, I understand Custom Shop ect and I know Fender is a powerful brand name but for almost $5K? I made the decision many years ago to keep my best playing basses and one of them was my Mike Lull P Bass with PJ pick ups. Still my favorite bass.

If I had the choice between Fender Custom Shop or Mike Lull today, I would order a Mike Lull and save a few thousand.

Mike Lull basses are excellent quality instruments.
They've gone up significantly in price over the past 5 years.
If you ordered a new one with the 15% lefty upcharge you'd be over 4k
If I was going to spend that kind of scratch for a new bass I agree you would get more bang
for your buck with a Lull or a Lakland, but some folks are willing to pay for the Fender logo on the headstock.
Custom Shop basses are excellent quality as well but somewhat over priced IMO

Now don't get me started about the price of a Sadowsky

I think I must have bought the only Fender Custom Shop lemon ever. Over several years, from a decent used instrument, the neck and electronics all gradually died and needed to be replaced.

I seem to recall Matt having a few issues as well.

All my custom shop issues were with G&L :D

Yes indeed. My first one, the sonic blue one, came to me with a bad neck. It was replaced, and the entire instrument refinished (because of the matching headstock), but came back to me with wiring issues, which I fixed because Fender’s customer service completely dropped the ball in sending me new parts for that.
After a lengthy but diplomatic negative review on the custom shop facebook page, I was eventually gifted an additional bass and a masterbuilt neck to replace the trashed one on my ‘74 Jazz. My head is still spinning from all that 4 years later.
However, I believe that was a bug, not a feature. Have had great experiences with them since.
