The same month and year I was born. This would be a dream bass for me. Too rich for my blood though.

Dr Who must have bought it in 1964 and then took it straight to 2022 to sell.

Dated October 1964.

The CBS sale was announced on 1/5/65.

Would this bass be considered purely pre-CBS? Or was there some transitioning happening in mid-late 1964?

Has "transition" logo and clay dots.

Excellent condition. But what if you paid 26,000 for it and it turned out to be a pile of poo? Seriously, what if it played just ok and sounded similar to a stock US or Mexican Fender JB? It’d be cool to own a vintage bass, but I can’t imagine paying that much for any instrument.

Most of us can't. It's a collection quality piece and collector price. It would be hard to find another.

That makes sense. I guess I don’t think like a collector and financially am more predisposed to think of use value.

Store it 3 years then sell for a profit. :D

The seller has no selling history, which is a legitimate concern. Not that I have $24k sitting around to throw away anyway.

This is more of an investment piece, rather than a player... for that price, you could buy any number of Sadowski's, Fender Custom Shops, Sire's, Nash's, Music Man's, etc... that all can sound just as good, you'll want to take out and play, and not be concerned about dinging them, and knocking your investment price down... a shame that prices like these takes a a bass out of the hands of a gigging musician, and puts it behind humidified glass, or in a a vault, never to see the light of day, on a stage, where it belongs....
