It's one thing to try and mimic a Shellac-crackle look... but this just looks like someone who used paint stripper, in a bad way... Way over-done....

Haven't seen anyone do a Vintage/Relic finish on a Hofner before. I don't have anything against relic finishes personally. I have a couple, one I put tougher myself. Well done they can be vey convincing and give the feel of a vintage instrument that can be gigged without the worry. I know that some people aren't into it and I get that too. This one uses an approach I haven't seen before. Looks to be a crackled varnished technique of some sort applied over a brand new bass. IMHO the result isn't very convincing especially the headstock. Yeah, that’s pretty heinous. Could that have actually come from Hofner? It looks more like a lousy home job. And for that price? Yikes... |
