Dude, you're gonna owe him big time! I think Jeroen got a place to stay in Hawaii for his next vacations...

Frenchy, I was thinking the same thing! All I've done is send Jeroen money; he's doing all of the work! He's certainly set the standard for the addage "random act of kindness"! :D

There's so much bubblewrap in there, there's absolutely no movement at all possible within the box. Wouldn't want stuff to move and shake around inside the box. The small boxes I used to keep the neck in position on top of the body. The neck bolts, ferrules and the strings that were on the bass are in an envelope so they can't damage anything. And just to be sure, I included all eBay and PayPal invoices for customs in case they pick it out.

I don't trust airport personnel ;)

Without the case, the weight was reduced to about half of what it was and the size is about two thirds of how it arrived here. That should save a lot of costs and trouble (many shippers don't accept long boxes) :)

Sounds good... nice and compact, and solid. certainly less chance of it getting stressed by other packages laying on top of it, handlers walking on it... I think I'll stop now - don't want to imagine more disastrous scenarios!

It wasn't that much trouble really (so far). I set an auction sniper, so I wouldn't have to stay home for bidding. I didn't have to pay in advance, because Ian was very quick with his payment. I didn't need to buy any packaging materials, because I could just cut the box the bass came in down to size. Most of the other materials I gathered at work and are used and therefore free. I really don't understand why so many ebayers charge you money for not just the shipping costs, but also for the packaging!

I agree with you, it's just another way to make a few more dollars off a sale!
