I don't know all the differences between the standard and the deluxe - check DiPinto's website for details. My deluxe does plays really nicely and I've occasionally switched to using it as my 'main' bass for short periods of time (and for comparison I mostly play P and Jazz basses). Parts of the bass do feel very "plasticy" (around the f holes, for example) but it's never been an issue; sort of goes along with the overall aesthetic of the bass. Does get a nice boomy sound using the neck pickup.
