I can't remember if this one ever came up for discussion or not, since we've had a few all black Wals show up for sale:

Yes, this is the same bass that was mentioned in the Elderly Instruments P-Bass thread... it used to be owned by Gravesbass and johntheleftybassist.

Definitely an awesome bass, and I'd absolutely love to have it as part of my stable, but you can order this exact bass new for REALLY close to what this one is being sold for.

When Wal's doors were closed and there was uncertainty about whether they would ever build again, I could see asking this kind of premium price for this bass. However, Wal is back in business and, from what I understand, the build quality is at least as good as it always was, so there's no reason why this bass' price should be so high.

If someone buys it... good for him.

But, it's definitely not going to be me.

He's got it listed with a Best Offer option too, however, though I'm sure he expects to make at least whatever he paid for it.

As I stated in the other thread, he offered me a "quick sale" for $4500.

I'm not really sure how much lower he would be willing to go from there... but, I don't think I would pay any more than the lower range of $3000 for that bass, and I doubt he would be willing to go that low.

Oh crap.. I just posted this and here it is. I used to own this bass and know ALL the history of it. I guess John traded it to cars-and-guitars in Florida. They are a vintage dealer. There are a few discrepancies here tho. I contacted the seller.

I think that Jim and I can attest to this particuliar bass being a fantastic tone machine and a real pleasure to own and play.If I we're collecting just lefty basses this would never have left my home.Just been buying loads of gear that aren't basses right now...Really a wicked bass.
