WOW.

:o

Whoever snags that beauty is one lucky mofo.

I don't think I've ever seen a Ric from the 70's that clean before... and in blue?

Damn!

Anyone know what the reserve is?

This current trend of expensive Rics really isn't the flash-in-the-pan I thought it was.

I really like my 4003, but with prices being what they are I'm really tempted to sell it.

A couple of beauties. If I had the cash I'd get both.

Guess I'll stick with my JetGlo.

I assume you mean "Burgundyglo"? The seller's calling his cherry red, but Rick affectionados know better than to use laymen terms like that. ;) There were three red finishes offered by Rick throughout their history, AFAIK: Burgundyglo, Red, and Ruby. Check out Rick's finish time line here:

Strangely I'm a fan of brown Rickenbackers. I love Azureglo and Montezuma Brown. My fave Rick finishes.

+1. Nothing strange about that, I love those finishes too. :) Despite not offering lefties anymore, they also don't seem particularly adventurous with their finish offerings in general anymore. What are the options these days other than Fireglo, Jetglo, and Mapleglo on the 4003s?

Well I stand corrected. I looked up available finishes on Rick's site and you can also get them in midnight blue and amber fireglo, though I don't know how up to date the Rick site is since it says you can get lefties in all models.

I'm pretty sure that the last 2 years they made lefties, they were only available in jetglo... and for a couple years before that I think it was only mapleglo and jetglo.

I might be wrong, but I was gassing hard for one a couple of years ago and that's what I seem to remember.

+1. Montezuma Brown looks much better in person than it does in photographs.

That one looks like Ruby Red to me. Plain ole red was much brighter IIRC.

Yes, great looking finishes, just strange in that brown is not typically thought of as a favored finish color on most basses.
I kick myself for not ordering a Montezuma Brown 4003 when I had the chance.

But I also like the Mocha/Rootbeer/whatever you call it finish on 70's Fender and Musicman basses too.

Mine is a 2008 (bought new in January 2009) and at that moment I could pick from Mapleglo, Jetglo, Fireglo and Midnight Blue. The store I got it from had all but the Midnight Blue in stock at that time, but another store did have it. I went for the Mapleglo.

Yeah for some reason they were available in Europe and not the States. I looked into importing one but it was just too much.
